Everyone in the transportation industry breathed a sigh of relief when the president signed the FAST Act (Fixing America’s Surface Transportation) into law at the end of last year.
But did you know what a pivotal behind-the-scenes role TWU members played to get the bill passed? In a video that debuted at the recent Legislative and Political Conference, the IAC, division directors and other TWU leaders, officers, and members detail the union’s effort to secure much-needed transportation funding after a decade of short-term fixes by Congress. Phone calls, door-to-door visits, letters to Congress, testimony on Capitol Hill—TWU pulled out all the stops to get this bill passed! Following the Transportation Legislative Training Conference last year, TWU was prepped and ready to mobilize across divisions and get the job done!
TWU Pres. Samuelsen Blasts Columbia University for Failing to Protect Workers
TWU members were working as Custodians and Security Officers in a Columbia University building in NYC when protesters stormed and occupied the building on April 30. The university epically failed to protect them, TWU International President John Samuelsen said in scathing letter to the university president, adding the union is exploring legal action against Columbia and the building occupiers.
