As we prepare for the presidential inauguration on Wednesday, our top priority is ensuring the safety of all transport workers. We urge you to use caution in the coming days. The events of the past few weeks in Washington, DC and several state capitals, including the breaching of the United States Capitol, have been a sobering reminder of the need to be extra careful and diligent this week. One of the hallmarks of our democracy is the peaceful transfer of power, but that is impossible if the workers who move America, even in times of crisis, are put in harm’s way.
The TWU calls on every arm of federal, state, and local government to do everything in their power to protect workers from the dangers posed by the current atmosphere of political violence. Going forward, we will continue to condemn the political recklessness that puts transport workers in danger.
