The TWU Endorses Phil Washington for FAA Administrator
Washington, DC – TWU International President John Samuelsen issues this statement endorsing Phil Washington for FAA Administrator:
“As the airline industry continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Aviation Administration and the working people who fall under its jurisdiction are still facing significant staffing, safety, and fatigue challenges. This is evidenced by recent near misses at our nation’s airports, the continued foreign outsourcing of heavy maintenance on U.S. aircraft, and the fact that airline dispatchers at two carriers are still being allowed to perform their safety-sensitive duties remotely.
“The FAA and the traveling public need an acting administrator who can guide this agency through these trials and ensure that U.S. air travel remains the safest in the world. The Transport Workers Union of America, the largest union in the airline industry, proudly endorses Phill Washington for FAA Administrator, and urges Congress to quickly confirm him to this position.”
The TWU represents more than 155,000 workers across the airline, railroad, transit, universities, utilities and service sectors. The TWU is the largest airline workers union in the United States.
