“Transdev forces drivers to work without proper bathroom breaks, disciplines and fires drivers through a draconian attendance policy and punishes workers who dare to bring concerns about their working conditions to management. That is unacceptable and it ends TODAY. Transdev’s anti-union rhetoric has epically failed,” said TWU International President John Samuelsen.
“We will fight and win a first contract that improves the working conditions and lives for Fort Bend Transit workers and their families. They are fed up with a lack of respect from management. A contract forces the bosses to make changes instead of punishing workers who dare to speak up.”
Commuters in Rosenberg have been plagued by service disruptions in recent months because of Transdev’s mismanagement and treatment of workers. Buses that are not canceled due to Transdev’s mismangement frequently experience overcrowding and commuters are turned away – leaving Bus Operators at risk of assault and outrage from irate customers.
Bus and Van Operators who work on local routes within Fort Bend County and commuter routes into downtown Houston voted overwhelmingly in a National Labor Relations Board election to join the TWU. The workers took it upon themselves to reach out to the TWU in response to their substandard working conditions. Workers employed by Transdev as of August 2, 2025 were eligible to vote.
The TWU is the largest transportation union in the Houston area, representing workers at Houston Metro, Paratransit workers at MV Transportation, Dispatchers at Avelo Airlines, and airline workers in the region, notably at Southwest Airlines.
Friday’s victory is the second successful election for the TWU in a so-called ‘right to work’ state this week. On Tuesday, Dispatchers at Utah-based Breeze Airways voted to join the TWU
“Every worker deserves fair pay, good benefits, and basic human dignity like the ability to take bathroom breaks and eat lunch,” Samuelsen said. “The ongoing treatment of workers at Fort Bend Transit is unacceptable and we will swiftly work to ratify a first contract that corrects these injustices and provides a grievance system to prevent management from abusing workers.”
