Walker pushed through one of the most extreme attacks on workers’ rights America has seen.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>From the beginning, the people successfully brought attention to a person who stated his objective was to divide and conquer unions, while he created tax breaks for his corporate cronies.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>Thousands of people from Wisconsin and other states were fueled for the past year by the passion created from Walker’s attacks against workers’ rights, as well as the need to protect and defend their human rights.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>TWU members have been on the frontlines since the beginning, fighting against Walker’s attacks and phone banking from the TWU Motor coach.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>People slept in the capitol building for days and weeks chanting “This is What Democracy Looks Like.” They walked door –to-door in freezing temperatures to collect nearly 1 million signatures in the hopes of getting Walker, who is now one of three governors to have ever faced a recall in US history, recalled.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>The events of the past year culminated as Wisconsinites took to the polls Tuesday and volunteered to ensure Walker’s recall.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>Walker may have kept his gubernatorial position yesterday with the help of his corporate friends, however, he lost a friend in the Senate to Democrat Mark Miller, incoming Wisconsin Senate Majority Leader. The people were heard.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>This is not a defeat, but a strong display of what Democracy looks like. This is what happens when people rise to stand up for what they believe in and fight for their right to collectively bargain and maintain their rights as human beings.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>We thank all our members and the thousands who fought and made history on Tuesday.<br /><br />We have more battles ahead of us this election year and will stand together to fight against those who follow Walker’s practices.</p> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>As Martin Luther King Jr said, “History is a great teacher. Now everyone knows that the labor movement did not diminish the strength of the nation but enlarged it. By raising the living standards of millions, labor miraculously created a market for industry and lifted the whole nation to undreamed of levels of production.
