Local 525 Brings Public Attention to Their Fight Posted OnOctober 31, 2016 byTWU Published 12 Jul, 2012 </div> <p style=”color: rgb(74, 74, 74);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>The rain couldn’t even stop TWU Local 525 members as they kicked off their informational picketing about their fight for a fair contract with G4S GS at the Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County, Florida.<br /><br />Local 525’s members, the Fire-Rescue Personnel who work at the space center, along with their families, other TWU members and IBEW members lined the street holding signs that read “Wackenhut/G4S Unfair to Fire Fighters” to bring public attention to their fight.<br /><br />G4S GS, formerly known as Wackenhut, was recently awarded the contract with NASA to provide fire-rescue services at the Kennedy Space Center and the members have been in negotiations since March.<br /><br />The Firefighters began bargaining to continue their existing contract with the hope of a small wage increase. However, G4S GS insisted that to make a profit they need to cut over 20% of the incomes and retirement benefits of the Firefighters, Paramedics and Inspector’s who live, work and spend their hard earned income in the community tying their hands to present a proposal to the Company for zero increases in wages and benefits, and a desire to keep their current benefits intact.<br /><br />“We don’t plan on stopping,” said Kevin Smith, President, and TWU Local 525.<br /><br />You can show your support for these hard working men and women by joining them weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.</p> <a style=”color: rgb(44, 92, 119);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);” href=”https://www.twu.org /blog/blogarchive/tabid/330/vw/1/itemid/370/previous.html” target=”_blank”><em style=”color: rgb(44, 92, 119);text-decoration: none;text-transform: none;background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>…Return</em></a> Categories:Recent Posts
