The Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO (TWU) is now organizing Waste Management (WM) Workers in Florida! Your co-workers have reached out for assistance, and we are ready to help!
TWU represents more than 155,000 members across the country. Our Industrial Trade Union is organized into three distinct, yet unified, divisions: Air, Rail, and Transit/Universities/Utilities/Services. Our Members’ Locals are governed by the National Labor Relations Act, the Railway Labor Act or Public Sector statutes. Your workgroup, if represented by the TWU, would be covered by the National Labor Relations Act, and would be protected by strict federal regulations to ensure that your representation is of the highest standard.
Our Members include aircraft mechanics, cable car operators, aircraft ramp workers, freight/passenger rail workers, flight attendants, customer service representatives, bus operators, train operators, public utility workers, air dispatchers, school bus drivers, firefighters, and a host of other classifications equal in importance to the positions you hold at WM. TWU was founded in 1934, and in those nearly 90 years has helped create and fought for America’s middle class. And with the assistance of our AFL-CIO affiliated union, you and your co-workers at WM can collectively create a better and more prosperous future both on and off the job.
TOGETHER WE ARE UNITED AND INVINCIBLE!
TWU Local 525 is your closest Local to the geographical area in which you are employed. TWU Local 525 has been in existence since June 23, 1957. First located in Cocoa Beach and now in North Merritt Island, TWU Local 525 has been a fierce advocate for blue collar workers throughout Brevard County and beyond.
TWU Local 525 has contracts across the eastern United States. We currently represent workers at NASA (Kennedy Space Center,) Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Patrick Air Force Base, Orlando Airport, Miami Airport, Lakeland Mass Area Transit, and a host of other locations. TWU Local 525 and our three top member-elected officers have a combined 110 years of seniority with TWU and would proudly accept the challenge of working with you to secure a better future for you at WM. TWU Local 525 will fight alongside you to secure a fair compensation and benefits package for your family as well as a safer work environment while on the job. Acceptable working conditions, work rules and a reasonable approach to discipline are just some of the items you can fight for at the negotiating table with WM. Our simple dues structure of two (2) hours of pay per month would not begin until the first contract with WM has been reached and approved by the membership. All other expenses related to this organizing drive will be covered by TWU. There will be no initiation fee for new workgroups like yours and dues will only increase, (always 2 hours of pay per month,) only when you receive future raises that would be guaranteed in a contract.
