Upcoming Events and Meeting Dates Union Meetings are held the first Monday of Upcoming Events and Meeting Dates Union Meetings are held the first Monday of the month during the school year at 7:00 p.m., Unless there is a Holiday, when it will be the next following Monday: Dear Brothers and Sisters: I would like to address to you the concerns that we ALL have as school bus drivers. We are facing extreme heat on our school buses. Our county alone has had several drivers and students to pass out on the buses, and some having to seek medical attention. This is a major issue for our "MOST PRECIOUS CARGO", as well as our drivers. We need to be addressing our local Congress, the news media and papers, our parents, and the school board. YES, Education is very important for our students, because they are our future of tomorrow. However, so is their health. Help us save our students and drivers from this heat. We are speaking up and speaking out to make a difference. Please join with us as part of our campaign, along with our other local brothers and sitters from Georgia. We need Georgia to mandate a start time. We should not start school before Labor Day. Be a part of the campaign and help us make a difference. CAMPAIGN: "BEAT THE HEAT" MONTHLY MEETING PLACE: RYAN'S STEAK HOUSE IN CANTON, GA MEETING TIME: 7:00 P.M. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!
Sincerely and in unity, The following is an excerpt from the Cherokee County Board of Education Web Site recognizing that we are covered under the Fail Labor Standards Act (FLSA), which you can access from our web site to read the full context: These guidelines shall ensure that the Cherokee County School District complies with the overtime pay, compensatory time, and record-keeping requirements of the FLSA. 1. Covered employees. Employees in the following job classifications are covered under the FLSA, paraprofessionals, nurses, warehouse workers, clerks, custodians, food service workers, maintenance personnel, receptionists, secretaries, bus drivers, mechanics and security personnel. 3. Hours worked. The District's seven-day workweek begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Covered employees shall accurately record hours worked during each week, including the exact time of arrival and departure from work and all overtime, by time sheet or time card. 8. Record keeping and posters. All records on wages, hours, and other items listed in the record-keeping regulations will be kept by the supervisor for the time specified by the FLSA. The District will display minimum wage posters at each District work site where employees will be likely to see them. We have been conducting a survey of hours among our members, especially since Management says we are well paid. The FLSA regulations provide for pay from key on to key off for bus drivers. Just some food for thought on these calculations to make you think if you are really earning $21.29 per hour on Step 5 or less. DIVIDED BY __4 & _ __ *TAKE A MINUTE TO FIGURE YOUR OWN DAILY RATE VERSUS YOUR ACTUAL TIME ON THE JOB--CONSIDER: HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE YOU TO PRE-TRIP AND GET TO YOUR FIRST STUDENT PICK UP? HOW LONG DO YOU "LAYOVER" BETWEEN ROUTES? IF YOU ARE NOT FREE TO DO AS YOU PLEASE THIS "LAYOVER" MAY CONSTITUTE WORK UNDER THE FLSA. HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE YOU TO POST-TRIP AND CLEAN YOUR BUS? HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE YOU TO FUEL YOUR BUS? HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU SPEND ON REQUIRED PAPERWORK, INCLUDING DISCIPLINE REFERRALS OR TRIPS TO THE SHOP TO HAVE YOUR TAPE PULLED? HOW OFTEN DOES THIS PAPERWORK GENERATE A MEETING OR A TELEPHONE CALL WITH AN ADMINISTRATOR? THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE THINGS TO CONSIDER IN FIGURING YOUR "ACTUAL" DAILY TIME. ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE CAN BE ADDRESSED AT THE UNION MEETING. |
