To:  TWU Local #295 Union Members

Over the past several months we have met with management, one on one, to discuss several issues.  We have accomplished many things to make our work life better.  Some of our accomplishments have been:

  • We helped develop the new field trip guidelines.  We worked on this over the summer and at the beginning of the school year.  Management listened to our concerns, some of them were; summer school and after school using the seniority rotating list, one driver will not be assigned to one event (i.e. band, football), parents and grandparents that only want to drive their children’s field trip.  And that only full time bus drivers will be on the field trip list (any person not a full time driver will have to driver 20 loaded hours before the first semester).  We are actively monitoring these guidelines to make sure that these are being followed.  If you see that they are not, please bring your facts to one of the officers to be investigated.

  • Brenda, Diane and Connie have been invited to attend the monthly Safety meetings by Mr. Shaddix.  This a great accomplishment for the Union to be able to attend these meetings to gain first hand knowledge and give input about safety issues concerning transportation.

  • We have just received permission to use our mailboxes for union notices.  This should result in better communications with our members.  Please check your boxes for Union information and upcoming meeting dates.

  • Most all of the Union members came to our first Union Christmas party.  A great time was had by all and we contributed lots of toys for the Toy Drive in Pickens County.

  • I’m sure you have all noticed the Union logo on our Christmas jackets.  This is a joint effort and accomplishment by the Union and Management.  It should boost the moral of our Members by proudly displaying their Union Logo.

These are a just few of the accomplishments we have made in the current school year.  We are actively working with Management on some other issues.  Some of these issues are:

  • Use of personal days when doing a field trip.  Mr. Shaddix is looking into ways to pay these trips without using our personal days.  We have a second meeting scheduled next week on this.

  • Gross pay on paycheck stubs need to be itemized to reflect any other jobs that we are being paid for such as; field trips, cafeteria work, substitute teaching, etc.

These are a few things that we are in the process of accomplishing.  And as always, we are here to advise union members on how to handle personal issues with management.

We are committed to solving these issues and more.   Please attend your monthly Union meetings and let your voices be heard.  Meetings are the first Tuesday of the month at Annie’s Restaurant.  Our next meeting is Tuesday, August 7th  at 8:30am.
