Legislative Fellowships

Members: Send an Application   |   Local Presidents: Send a Recommendation

Since 2007 the TWU Department of Legislative and Political Affairs (DLPA) has utilized the DLPA internship program to provide an opportunity for Local Members, who have been involved as political activists, to gain valuable training as advocates. Interns worked with the entire Washington, DC staff under the direction of Legislative & Political Affairs Director, Portia Reddick White.

One of the greatest benefits of serving as a DLPA Fellow is the opportunity to meet many of the lawmakers that have a hand in making decisions in our government. A Fellow will be able to witness firsthand how concerns and issues that require the attention of congressional leaders are brought to the forefront.

The purpose of the Internship Program is:

  • to identify and train Local TWU activists on the legislative and political process,
  • to equip Fellows to help their Locals with grassroot campaigns with other Local TWU Members; and
  • to equip Fellows to help keep their Locals active in participating with the legislative and political processes on the federal, state and local levels.

The Fellowship is a four‐week program designed to give an inside view of how the DLPA office operates on a day‐to‐day basis and to participate in the DLPA’s daily work activity.

Only applicants who apply before the deadline of October 6, 2011 with the required letter of recommendation from their Local president will be eligible to serve as a DLPA intern. All who are interested should submit an application.

Please direct any questions to Portia Reddick White at (202) 719-3903.

Both of these forms must be filled out in order to be considered:
