TWU Local 556 negotiators reached at tentative four-year contract with Southwest Airlines on March 26, 2009 for its nearly 10,000 Flight Attendants at the carrier.
Electronic voting will take place in May. The Local plans to send a DVD that includes an instructional video and a copy of the tentative contract to each member’s home in April.
Local 556 President Thom McDaniel said that the agreement includes increases in wages and 401 (k) contributions, as well as improvements in leave options, flexibility and job security. There were no concessions.
“This round of negotiations was conducted with a spirit of cooperation and partnership that demonstrates the legendary culture of Southwest Airlines," said McDaniel. “Times are tough in the airline industry, but labor relations don’t have to be.”
The company released a statement saying: “We are pleased with this mutually beneficial contract that delivers enhancements to pay and benefits for our hard working flight attendants.”
