Local 208, Columbus Unions Aid 1,000 Families

More than 1,000 families and their 2,400 children from the Columbus, Ohio area were the recipients of a helping hand this holiday season thanks to the generosity of Local unions, including TWU Local 208. Each family received a food basket with a turkey and other items and one new toy for each child. Sadly, this year, some of those receiving help from the “One New Toy” program had in years past been on the giving side. They included members of the United Autoworkers Union who lost their jobs earlier in the year due to a plant closing.

In addition to Columbus-based Local 208, the International Union, Local 250-A in San Francisco and Local 229 in Jersey City all donated to the cause. The project is conducted in cooperation with the local United Way organization. Above photo shows TWUers ready for a busy day’s work distributing the goods. Kneeling is Local 229 Vice President Steve Hamm.
