The Transport Workers Union 23rd Constitutional Convention, the Union’s supreme authority, elected the TWU’s visionary leadership team to another term and set a promising course for TWU’s next four years.
A total of 399 delegates, including alternates, attended the 23rd Convention, held in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 14-18, 2009. Delegates elected International President James C. Little’s team to serve another term strengthening and building the Union. The new International Vice Presidents, Executive Council and Executive Board were also elected.
Delegates worked diligently discussing TWU resolutions and Constitutional changes, and in committee meetings and workshops designed to encourage communication and information-sharing between divisions, Locals and the International.
The Convention’s results will help the Union “Build on Our Legacy,” the theme of the important event, which reflects the serendipitous timing of the TWU’s 75th Anniversary and the 23rd Convention landing on the same year.
The event featured guest speakers, including former Mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown, passionate and heartfelt addresses by TWU members, feature videos on TWU committees and activities, and video greetings from top politicians and legislators.
