Contract Negotiations Communication Memo

The full TWU Negotiating Committee met with AA Management in Dallas, Texas this week:  November 12-16th.  During the week, members from various TWU Committees were on hand to provide clarification on specific FMLA, IOD/Restricted Duty language and the Reduction in Force (RIF) process.  On Friday, the full Committee reconvened to review all articles that were tentatively agreed to by AA and the TWU.

We will soon be announcing new communication tools that will be available to better keep the membership informed during these negotiations.

Joint Committee Communications Update

Your TWU Joint Negotiating Committee met with the company this week, Nov 12 – 16, and reviewed several articles for discussion. This resulted in tentative agreements to some, while continuing to review articles where no agreement was reached. Articles that were exchanged in your TWU Joint Negotiating Committee this week are as follows:

 Article 2  Article 9  Article 10  Article 14  Article 15  Article 20  Article 24 Article 28  Article38 Article 39

Also, TWU Benefits representatives presented valuable FMLA and ID language to both M&R and Joint Negotiating Committees.

Your Negotiating Committee continues to work toward the restoration and improvement of wages and work rules that were given back to the company in 2003 under the threat of bankruptcy and the promise of “share the pain, share the gain.”

We thank all of you for your continued support.

Maintenance and Related Communications Update

The Maintenance and Related Negotiating Committee met with AA management November 12-16 in Dallas to discuss TWU proposals.  As a summary of last week, both management and the TWU agreed to the negotiating ground rules.

On Tuesday, the following Articles were tentatively agreed to:  9, 20 and 38.  The TWU also passed across the table proposals for the following Articles:  15 and 28.  Management is currently reviewing the Union’s proposals.

On Wednesday morning, the TWU submitted proposals for Articles 2 and 14 for management review.  Given the complexity that accompanies a reduction in force, a Committee was established to review and report back to the full Negotiating Committee with their recommendations.

On Thursday, the Negotiating Committee presented AA Management with proposals for the following Articles:  10, 24 and 39 and continued dialogue on previously submitted proposals.

Early Friday morning, AA Management met with the TWU M&R Committee.  They informed the Committee a tentative agreement was reached on Article 14.

In summary, T/A’s have been reached on the following Articles:

  • Article 9 (Probationary Period)
  • Article 14 (Loss of Seniority)
  • Article 20 (Bulletin Boards)
  • Article 38 (Union Security)

The following submitted Articles are still under review:

  • Article 2 (Definitions)
  • Article 10 (Seniority)
  • Article 15 (Reduction in Force)
  • Article 24 (Absence from Duty)
  • Article 28 (No Discrimination, and Recognition of Rights of Compliance)
  • Article 39 (Physical Examination)

Tech Specialist Negotiation Update.

The Technical Specialist negotiating Committee consisting of Howard McKinney/Gary Moffitt for the Union and Bob DuBreuil/Mark Easton for the company met daily through November 12th to the 15th.

International Vice President Dennis Burchette also participated in several meetings. Tentative agreements were reached on Articles 9, 15, 20, 28 and 38. Discussions on Articles 2, 10, 14, 24 and 39 are currently in progress. The Negotiating Committee is next scheduled to meet on December 3rd.

Remember – Tentative Agreements reached during the course of negotiations on one or more articles are not final and binding until agreements are reached on all articles - nothing is final until everything is final.
