The TWU Negotiations Committee reconvened at the Green Oaks Hotel in Fort Worth, Texas August 20-24 for additional preparation, as the November 7 exchange of openers with American Airlines draws near.  The newest member of the Negotiating Team was introduced (Larry Pike, President-elect, Local 567-AFW).  The meetings were chaired by International Vice President Dennis Burchette.

Mark Richard, Esq., a labor attorney, spent the week with the Negotiating Committee.  His credentials include:  30-plus years representing union members as a labor attorney, union organizer, Local President of AFT (American Federation of Teachers) and also serving as a Chief Negotiator at the bargaining table.  In that thirty-year time span, Mr. Richard has been involved in over 200 contract negotiations with various unions.  His valuable insight and extensive labor background provided the backdrop for the following Negotiating Committee workshops:

  • Power Bargaining
  • Strategic Planning
  • Drafting Considerations
  • Contract Campaigns
  • Team Unity and Discipline

Also present mid-week was TWU Communication Director, Jamie Horowitz.  He addressed the Committee, providing insight on developing strategic campaigns.

Special thanks to both Mark Richard and Jamie Horowitz for their time, patience and dedication working with the Negotiating Committee this week.  Additionally, they are both to be commended for their dedication to the cause of organized labor.

The Committee will meet again September 10-14 in Fort Worth.
