The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)

Pride at Work is supporting the passage of an Act that would extend fair employment practices under federal law to gay men ,lesbian and transgender community.  (The Employment NON-Discrimination Act (ENDA).  The act does not create any “special rights” but simply affords to all Americans basic protection from employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.  ENDA applies the same procedure and similar, but more limited, remedies as other federal civil rights laws, like Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the American with Disabilities Act.  ENDA will be introduced in Congress before the summer recess.  Labor  must mobilize in support of this bill before it makes it to the floor for a vote, which is predicated to happen around September 2007.  To support this bill, go to Pride at Work’s website, www.prideatwork.org and send a free fax to your Senators and Representatives asking them to co-sponsor and support ENDA.  Supporters can also download from the Pride at Work website ENDA action postcards.  Make copies and pass out to family and friends and co/workers and ask them to fill them out.

If you want to speak out on the ENDA bill give Pride at Work a call at 202-637-5014.
